On 2nd October 2025, MES Fathima Rahim Central School, Kaithapoyil, conducted a Faculty Development Training Program on the theme “Student-Centered Classroom for Competency-Based Learning Outcomes.” The program aimed at equipping teachers with the knowledge, skills, and strategies required to shift from traditional teacher-led instruction to student-centered approaches aligned with competency-based learning.
Inauguration and Welcome
The program was inaugurated by our respected Manager, K.M.D. Mohammad Sir, who underlined the importance of adopting innovative and inclusive pedagogical practices for 21st-century learners.
In his welcome address, Principal, Mr. Joseph Pulimoottil, emphasized the urgent need to shift pedagogy from rote-based to competency-based learning. He also introduced the Resource Person, Mr. Yesudas C Joseph, highlighting his 40 years of rich experience and describing him as the best choice to lead this transformative session.
Session Highlights
The session began with an engaging ice-breaking activity, which created an atmosphere of collaboration. Teachers were divided into groups and tasked with preparing charts and presentations on the characteristics of a student-centered classroom.
The discussions focused on how such classrooms directly contribute to achieving competency-based learning outcomes (CLOs).
Key aspects explored included:
* The characteristics of Child Centered Classroom
* Designing lesson plans with clear learning outcomes.
* Ensuring preparedness and effective delivery.
* Using innovative strategies for assessment and feedback.
* Establishing individual student connections.
* Promoting collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication.
* Teachers also reflected on the shortcomings of rote memorization and the need for transformative teaching strategies.

The training enabled participants to:
